Working with Clients Through Separation, Divorce and Beyond

 

This 2 day workshop has been designed to support counsellors in their work with clients who are in the process of separating/divorcing.

Participants working with individuals, young people, couples, families and grandparents will be introduced to ways of working that assist them to assist their clients recognise that individuals within the extended family system may have different and equally valid views on the transition.

 

The workshop will address ways of working that recognise the powerful societal pressures on separating families.

 

There will be opportunities throughout the workshop for participants to reflect on the emotional impact on the counsellor when working with separation and on the participants' own practice examples - these will be linked to both systemic/narrative concepts and ideas and integrated with key attachment research as applied to childhood, adult and family attachments. The importance of the therapeutic relationship will underpin the approach.

 

The workshops will be facilitated by Helen Riseborough - a BACP Senior Accredited Psychotherapist who has had over 20 years experience working with this theme within schools, NHS and non-statutory contexts and in independent practice. 

She facilitates practice -based workshops and CPD courses for mental health professionals via her own training provider – Consulting & Training Solutions – which she set up in 2011 and which specialises in practice- based CPD’s, workshops and training courses.

 

Brief pre-reading will be sent to registered participants 2 weeks before the workshop. References to latest research on the process of separation will be provided.
